Myth? Legend? Certainly elusive to the many who have sought it. Does it exist? Well, I can tell you one thing, “Mankind is batting a thousand! Everyone dies eventually, right?” See Hebrews 9:27.
But, that certainly doesn’t mean you have to spend the last decade or two of your life miserable. You, in fact, have some control over whether or not you enjoy your twilight years or live in pain and misery. The choices we make now have a direct impact on our future, daily lives. Maybe there is a fountain of youth?
Read and listen to this. “Resistance training is in many ways the true fountain of youth,” Bamman said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I like to say the fountain of youth is the water cooler in the gym.” The article goes on to implore those 50 and older to take up some form of resistance training i.e. lift some weights at the gym. It’s imperative and, barring any acute medical ailments, absolutely necessary.
Enough of the soapbox. As I enter my sixties, I’ve made a silent promise to my wife, my 11 kids and my 11 grandchildren that I will work out, lift weights and pay attention to my cardiovascular health in order to be there for them and to live life with them to the fullest.
Hard to believe I’ve been out of sync with my workouts for nearly a month. This looks like the first week, in a few, where I can get back to my 5-day split routine. Today was chest and tri’s and boy did I get after it.

- First compound round of 3 sets: dumbbell bench press, dips, standing tricep extensions, crunches.
- Second compound round of 3 sets: incline dumbbell bench press, dumbbell flies, skull crushers, 90sec planks.
- Third compound round of 2 sets: dumbbell pullovers, tricep kickbacks and bicycle crunches.
- Walk run intervals for 8 minutes.
