Two Miles?!?!!!

It really is becoming a toss up as to which day’s workout is my favorite. I mean, my ‘happy place’ is definitely the pool, but, man-o-man, chest and tri’s was a great day, too. So, hard to choose. And, there was shoulders back last Friday – man that was a good day, too.

Anyway, back to today. I’m not gonna lie, even at 60 I knew I was sore from working out yesterday and not just from old age. But, that can’t stop you or I. Learn to differentiate between good muscle soreness and a genuine injury and then get after it. Today was swim day, so back to the story.

I swam my usual three sets of twenty laps with two four-lap breaks in between sets. Finishing up, I pulled off my goggles and saw the lifeguard standing over me, at the end of my lane. “Do you swim for time or do you count laps?” I replied, “I count. 68 laps but I think I may have lost track, so it was probably 70 or 72.” That’s when she said, “That’s over two miles. Aren’t you the one who had heart issues, last year?”

That’s when it hit me. Last year, this month, I had three stents put in my widow maker that was 90% blocked. I couldn’t even swim four laps. Then the lifeguard said something poignant. “You’ve got a lot to be thankful for.” I sure do!

  • 68 laps in the pool.
  • 10 mins on the bike.
  • 60 sec wall squat.
  • 4 mins on the elliptical.
  • 3 mins on the rowing machine.
  • 10 wall balls with burpees.
