Can You Do Too Much?

This is a blog chronicling my fitness journey into my sixties, and hopefully beyond. It’s a road lined with caution signs and speed limits. Long gone are the days and nights of my twenties when I was in the Marine Corps. Back then, I tell people, it was nothing for us to do a 20 mile hump with all our gear and then spend two hours in the gym later that evening. Ain’t gonna happen, today.

Yes, I am on a quest to improve functional performance and build/maintain muscle mass and strength, but I’ve got to realize that it’s not going to happen on the same scale as forty years ago. Caution becomes the word of the day. Listen to the warning bells and heed the warning signs. Now, more than ever, you can’t afford an injury. Not only does it take infinitely longer to recover, there’s the possibility of not recovering. I’m feeling some of those pains, this evening. Have I done too much? I hope not, but I’m certainly going to listen to my body and tweak some things.

Pool day!!! 58 laps, 8 min bike, 4 min elliptical and 3 mins rowing. I threw in 50 pushups on the way to the rowing machine. Now for a good night’s rest.
