Can I Really Be Excited About Cardio?

It’s hard to explain. Cardio is every weightlifter’s Achilles heel. It’s an almost unanimous vote against cardio and those who do fit it in use self-control and discipline to force themselves. So, why was I excited about today being cardio?

It’s true. This morning, I realized what day it was and realized that my current streak would be four days in a row and I felt a sense of anticipation that bordered on excitement about my cardio plan for Thursdays. Looking back on the day, I see two contributing factors: incorporating something I enjoy doing into my routine and the mental reward of maintaining a streak. I love to swim and I love to notch up another full, five-day week of working out.

Today’s cardio routine consisted of 50 laps in the pool (under 30 mins), 16 minutes on the bike, 10 minutes on the elliptical, 5 minutes on the stair climber, and 3 minutes rowing.

The stair climber machine works magic.
