Stick to the Plan!

Mondays, for the most part, begins everyone’s ’Push/Pull’ routine and usually the focus is Chest and Tri’s. Of course, that can present several problems, most significant being the lack of equipment for everyone anxious to get to a bench or a chest machine. Smart body builders are quick to adapt, while others just hope the equipment they need will be available.

Today, I was in the latter camp, hoping the gym might be empty and I could follow through with my chest and tri’s routine. With fingers crossed I entered the gym and scanned the floor. What luck! There was an empty bench and the tricep cable machine was free, as well. Awesome! Gonna be a great week.

But, that’s not really the point. What if every spot was occupied? Would you be willing to wait your turn or do you have a backup plan? Some lifters do the smart thing and flip their routine (i.e. back and bi’s) and walk into the gym undeterred knowing the equipment they need will be free. And that is exactly the backup plan you need. Be prepared to make a quick decision and change your plans instantly. You’ll thank me later.
