…of mice and men. Across the span of my life I’ve witnessed ‘gym rats’ lose their minds (and their tempers, etc.), coming unglued and acting like two-year-olds because they can’t get to the gym for whatever reason. But, that’s not the topic for today. As Tom Hanks once famously said, “Stuff happens.” Today is Juneteenth and my gym is closed in honor of this day.
I still find it hard to fathom how entrenched and institutionalized ’racism’ was (maybe for some, still is) in that there was a national proclamation ending all slavery in 1863, but it took 2000 troops two years later, on June 19th, 1865, to enforce the emancipation proclamation in Texas and free nearly 250,000 slaves. Racism is evil, regardless of who it affects.
So, I find myself having written that one should ‘plan their work and work their plan’, but life’s hiccups never cease. What do you do? For a sixty-year-old like me, maybe go for a hike. I’m gonna put on my weighted vest, hike, do some squats and a few pushups and look forward to tomorrow. As I walked out of the gym, yesterday, I wished the employees, “a great day off!” and said I’d see them on Thursday.
Here’s what I did yesterday, in my happy place. Swim – 68 laps, Bike – 6 mins, 80 pushups, 30 hanging knee lifts. Good day!
