I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve read articles (even wrote one myself) speaking to the two monumental aging moments in an individual’s life. The first occurs at 44 and the second at 60. There’s really no reason to whip a dead horse, this is something us 60 year olds are already experiencing. But, to keep this story moving, my body has been experiencing the effects of aging and today it chose to rear its ugly head.
I entered a nearly empty gym and only waited a few seconds for the guy ahead of me to wipe off the bench and let me take it over. Being Monday, I was pumped and ready to exert myself following my chest and tri’s routine. I knocked out four sets but really put a lot of effort into it.
My second combo routine involved inclined bench with dumbbells. I want to push myself and grabbed larger dumbbells than usual. After three sets, I realized that all my effort was actually exacerbating an issue that age seems to bring about: the inevitable ‘roids. Sadly, I had to clean off the bench and make a speedy exit and thankfully didn’t suffer any embarrassment. This will have to be one of the many age related ‘issues’ that I’ll need to manage as I continue to pursue my fitness goals.
- Combo #1 x 4 sets: bench press, dips, dumbbell flies, Russian twists.
- Combo #2 x 3 sets: inclined dumbbell press, tricep push downs, reverse crunches.

- I did intend to have a third combo but issues prevailed.
The moral of the story is to accept our physical limitations and work within the boundaries we are assigned.
